Istanbul day 2

Day 2 was freezing cold.  We planned to go to Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. Our hotel was literally in walking distance from  Hagia Sophia. Hagia Sophia is quite impressive when entering it. I think I read somewhere that it was the biggest building in the world for hundreds of years. Inside it is even more impressive with wonderful mosaics. It is also a big success that the original church was not destroyed but the islamic arts where implemented in such way that it is just making it more impressive and not ugly. My niece was testing the acoustics by screaming. It was quite fascinating, even if we tried to convince her that it is not a place for screaming. Deep inside I was happy to have heard the pretty cool acoustics live, even if it was through my niece. After half an hour my niece was getting the crisis and refused to go to another museum. Btw Ada´s first ever museum is Hagia Sophia , which is difficult to beat :).

Planirali smo otici do Aja Sofije i Plave Dzamije.

We had to force her to walk to the Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmed Mosque) , but when we saw people standing in the queue that was  over 100m long (in the windy and ice cold weather), we decided we cannot force the children to that. We will simply have to go inside the mosque another time. However, the architecture of the Blue Mosque is stunning. It was built between 1609 and 1616. From the outside I found it much more beautiful than Hagia Sophia. It can be clearly seen that the architect Sedefkar Mehmed Aga had been inspired by Hagia Sophia. As a travel guide says he ( Sedefkar Mehmed Aga) combined the most beautiful christian and islamic architecture in one building. In the night it is even more beautiful when they light it up.

After a late lunch we went to the Taksim square with the metro. Considering the fact that Istanbul has at least 14-15 million people I cannot believe that the metro is so clean. When I think about it is THE cleanest metro I´ve ever seen. I also found that they had a very interesting version of the pole where people hold themselves when travelling with the metro, simple but genius invention. We walked the shopping street (I forgot the name) and took a rest in a nice café.

Resting after a tough day / Odmor nakon dugog dana.

Istanbul day 1

Yesterday, Ada and I arrived in Istanbul.  At the airport there were no buggies (neither had they buggies in Munich) to borrow, which resulted in me carrying Ada for literally 2 hrs. Talk about arm exercise.  There was an ocean of people waiting for the passport control. Despite having the most efficient passport control which I have ever seen, it took us around  half an hour until it was our turn. Unfortunately, I couldn´t take any pictures of this sea of people, holding Ada. I felt really stuck there with a child in my arms (that wants to walk) , my luggage and a packed buggy. In the end, I was so tired I wanted to cry but was lucky to find a very nice portier that helped us out from the airport. The next chock was the taxi.  I got an heart attack there. There was no seat for Ada, the seatbealt for me wasn´t working and the guy (knowing no english) was listening to some Turkish folklore and driving like crazy. I was soo relieved when I finally arrived to the hotel (in one piece)… In the evening we went for a dinner in Hatay restaurant close to the hotel and ate some specialty (I forgot the name) that looked quite cool. It was put on fire and there was some dough that was removed before eating the gulasch like thing.

Sinoc smo Ada i ja stigle u Istanbul.

Istanbul here we come / Eto nas, Istanbule

Yeeess, we finally booked the tickets !!! One of my “to-visit” places will soon be checked on my “wish to see-list” 🙂 . I look forward to it. We will celebrate mysisters birthday in Istanbul. She loves the city, I have never been there, so we decided to go there for a couple of days. In Istanbul there are soo many things to see I have already started my list… 1st. I want to go to a hammam, Aysofya, Blue Mosque, panorama 1435 . basar etc. 😀 If anyone has any recommendations please let me know 🙂istanbul-spice-market-photo_1442697-770tallNapokon!! Napokon smo rezervisali karte.

Arrived in Munich / Stigla u Minhen

I love Stockholm Airport just because they have these buggies you can borrow without having to call the company and ask for a buggy 3 weeks in advance. Very practical 🙂 Luckily my father helped us out with the luggage.

Before boarding the plane I managed to take a photo of my daughter where it looks like her eye squints :P.

In the air I had a screaming monster in my knee for the first hour, but afterwards I had a cute (=sleeping) little baby

And finally Ada and me arrived at the Munich airport..:D  (it is written in arabic because there are a lot of veeery rich arabic tourists coming)

Up in the air/ U zraku

again…This morning started very stressful. I didn´t manage to pack yesterday so I had to do it this morning. Despite bad planning we somehow managed to be in time at the airport. I was convinced that I am tooo early and that I have another 1h for strolling around through the stores before I realized that we are boarding in 10 min.

aerodrom

when you are in hurry these rolling bands feel like they are 10 km long.

aerodrom1

After too few hours of sleep I am trying to make a selfie where I look good, but unfortunately it wasn´t working. Another quite annoying thing was that after handing in the buggy there was no buggy one could borrow. Considering the fact that Munich airport is huge, that is really bad that one cannot borrow a buggy directly from the airport, but one has to call the company you are flying with. When landing in Stockholm, there was a buggy directly outside the exit so I didn´t have to carry Ada so much. Definitely, something  airport should copy.

Ada loved coming to our apartment in Stockholm, especially when having so many new toys

Chrystal museum/ Muzej Kristala

I just remembered the crystal museum that I and my mother visited a year ago. It was so interesting. We learned that there are only two pieces of emeralds that are this big (one in Munich one in Russia) that haven’t been used for making jewels (at least that is how I understood it). This piece is in Munich thanks to Mr. Leuchtenberg that was married to the Russian empress. He was collecting gemstones and minerals and thanks to his wife he was the first to explore the mines in Russia when opened. Mr. Leuchtenberg had a great collection in Munich. In second world war the workers at his museum/collection suspected that the collection would be destroyed and stories are told that they were coming at work with lunchboxes and going home with gemstones/ minerals from the collection. Unfortunately, the workers were right. The collection got bombed and 60-70% of the collection was ruined. Thanks to the workers bringing the pieces home around 150 000 pieces got rescued. Here are the most impressive and beautiful pieces. I was fascinated by the gold (of course) but also of the stones that changed colors when illuminated with UV-light.

Medival fair in pictures/ Srednjovijekovna pijaca u slikama

Yesterday I visited the medival christmas fair with a friend and enjoyed the beautiful weather. I was quite fascinated that someone comes up with the idea to make chocolate tools or all these tapers made of bees wax. Looked lovely. My favorite is the chocolate dipped banana:) Here are some pictures from the fair.

Yesterday I went visiting a friend I haven´t seen in long time. We were taking a walk in the christmas markt in Dachau, where I could see this huge christmas calender. Quite a fun idea… julkalender
