Update dividends 2018 / Ažuriranje dividende 2018

1

My goal is to achieve some 10 000kr (ca 1000 Euro) per month in dividends until my retirement and to reach that I am investing in different stocks. Last year I had an increase of approximately 45% (sounds more than it is) of dividend achieving over 4500 kr (ca 450 Euro) in dividends that year.
This money is all reinvested and will (hopefully) generate more dividends for this year…like Einstein said the compound effect is the 8th world miracle.

Half year has passed and I am until now having only 15% less dividend this year than the whole last year which is motivating even though I admit I haven’t been buying as many stocks as I wanted lately due to movement and adjustments in US. In any case when I see the bars I do get a little motivated for the future 🙂

Library and the American (lack of) culture / Biblioteka i američka (ne)kultura

2

One of the things I love and I want my kids to love is the visits to the library. I assume that every city has a public library and so I found out about the public library in White Plains.
The building seems to be built in 60’s which means it is really ugly (my opinion).

But like in many other things it is the inside that counts. Inside is ok. It is for sure not the most beautiful library but it works fine. The trick here was though that even if living in White plains we couldn’t register in this library but we had to go to another town to which our community belongs to and register as members. Means unless you know exactly to which library you need to go, check it up before going to one, or do like us. Drive her and forth to get a library member ship.
The thing that it is for free in the land where everything costs a fortune was motivating.
They have very nice exhibition of different things that schoolers have done which I find very nice of the city to show as proper art. It has a very big children area with toys as well as very nice books which is what I essentially need.

During the day they have some activities for kids which is nice when you have no where to put your youngest kid.
One thing though is their café which is also nice but they serve everything in paper mugs or plastic.
I do not like to eat soups from a paper mug unless I really really have to. But in a “everyday healthy” café with “organic coffee” I don’t see the point of using paper mugs, plates and plastic cutlery. It just looks very cheap!
Another thing is the soup doesn’t cool down so I asked for a porcelain plate for my son and they didn’t have one single normal plate in the whole café. I was asking in three different ways about the plate thinking they hadn’t understood me…then an old lady proudly (?) tells me that is American “culture”. I was looking at her and swallowed and fought with myself for a moment.
I wanted to tell her lady ” ballet, opera, wonderful art are culture. Culture is something positive for the environment. Drinking coffee in a paper/plastic mug is NOT culture it is actually LACK of culture! Maybe it turns culture the day all the Michelin star restaurants start serving their food on paper plates and plastic mugs… but until then… it is for sure not “culture”!
Then I remembered I was here to learn about new “cultures” , to open MY mind not someoneelses mind. So I took my kids out to the kids area and let them choose some books. These are the first books they borrowed in an American library 🙂

First borrowed books in an American library/ Prve iznajmljene knjige u jednoj američkoj biblioteci

Imaju i kafić! Nisam skontala to korištenje papirnih tanjira, plastičnih čaša i to.

White Plains – stay in a hotel

1

After arriving to the hotel and then experience the first chock with one bed to little we made a complaint and got a bigger room with two beds but from the next day. It is not a catastrophy but after such a long trip that is the least problem you want to have… where to sleep :/
So can someone please tell me how someone comes to the idea to book one room with one bed for 4 people?
Anyway… the rooms where nice and it is more like a small apartment, since we are stying here for a week or two that is ok. Funny thing is though that in each bedroom there is a tv. All in all three tv:s in one apartment… People seem to like watching tv here.

Since we are living in hotels since a couple of days we had a lot of laundry to do so imagine my chock when I heard that each wash is like 2.5 USD and additional 2 USD for the laundry detergent. 4.5 USD for one wash :/

At least someone liked to put in coins…:P

One thing I couldn’t even imagine was that they don’t have the plastic bottle deposit for all plastic bottles but only for some bottles in some places.
I hope I have misunderstood it and there is a system that I still haven’t found out but for the greatest economy in the world it is a disgrace if they don’t have it for each and every plastic bottle.

Today we also went to see the house we rented. It was in much worse shape than we expected and it was left very dirty so we got approvement from the company that we can paint the worse rooms.
Let’s see how that turns out!

Arriving in USA- Newark

1

In the morning we ate breakfast and immediately went to the airport with all our luggage. We had all in all 5 big suitcases , two small and additional backpacks, and two car sits for the kids… and two small kids that were, to say the least, excited.
We had to give back the rental car and it took some time. Then suddenly all the baggage cars where gone. Like vanished. No where to find. After some 15-20 min we finally got some and could than continue.
We made the check in (sounds like it took 5 min but in reality it was an Odyssey) and then we finally entered the business lounge. We prepared the kids for the flight, talked and wondered why only our kids run, scream, dance, climb, hide and so on.
I couldn’t tell if people smiled at us because the kids were fun or because they felt sorry for us. In any case the wilder the kids got the more I feared that this will be a long…very long journey.
I mentally prepared for the worst on top of the feeling of actually not liking to fly.
Taking our seats we were served whatever we wanted in real glass not plastic! So much about the “security” and the prohibition of bringing all possible things on the plane.

The kids got the cutest airplanes! I got champagne !

I promised Ada that she could watch as many cartoons as she wanted!
And shortly after taking off the food came. It was tasty like real restaurant food.

However, lucky me my back started hurting from all the bags I had been carrying and lifting up and down so I could hardly sit during the flight.
The pilots where really flying fast because we landed almost an hour before the schedule.

Finally we arrived in Newark!!!
After the most stupid and useless control I have experienced in any of my trips ever (of course we are not allowed to take picture there) we finally got out from the airplane.
A taxi waited for us and drove us to a hotel in White Plains. If you are an expat and deal with Americans my tip to you is to be VERY specific (foolproof) in what you want.
For example we needed a hotel room for four people and also said that expecting well beds for all…
We got one bed and a couch??
After paying business class tickets for the whole family they save money by booking a hotel with one bed for a family and that after a 20 hrs trip… No comment!
Welcome to America 😛

Trip to US – Day 1-3 / Put u Ameriku Dan 1-3

3

We were supposed to arrive in US already on Saturday (Day 1) but Ada got middle ear infection and was forbidden to fly so we waited until she got better. That fit me because next day I got tonsillitis so both of us were on antibiotics. The only problem was that all the hotel rooms in Karlsruhe (?) where booked out so we had a serious problem finding one. In the end we ended up in Novotel in the city center.

Me in the emergency feeling fabulous …or not!

Since we were anyway in Karlsruhe we decided to go to the Karlsruhe Zoo one last time before leaving. We had tickets left for the boats so we enjoyed a boat ride.

On Monday we had to go to the doctor with Ada and he gave us green light for travelling on Tuesday.
Monday morning was also the last day Ada and Adrian where in kindergarten and they had a fare well party. This was quite important for Ada to say bye to her old friends. Ada and Adrian got their portfolios and were so satisfied having them. Me on the other hand I felt sad and I hope we did the right thing moving to US.

After having everything done with the kids we took our luggage and drove to Frankfurt. We drove with two cars my car and the rental car. My car we left at a friends place to be picked up by Ensars brother. After leaving it we continued to Steigenberger hotel at the Frankfurter airport. My plan was to go on wellness and spa instead I was k.o with my antibiotics and I was diving in the bed as soon we had dinner.

Stranded in Karlsruhe/ Zaglavili u Karlsruhe

2

Today, we handed over the keys to our apartment. We were also supposed to leave Karlsruhe and travel to Frankfurt. Stay there in a hotel and fly to New York tomorrow… Ada and Adrian were supposed to have a fare well party in the kindergarten today and get their gifts and say hi and bye. Instead Ada got sick and we had to go to the doctor. It turned out to be otitis so everything we planned was cancelled. Instead we landed in a hotel in Karlsruhe and now we are waiting for Ada to get well to continue our trip…

Such a mess/ Koji haos!

Room service when kids refuse to eat / Sobna usluga kad ti djeca hoće kući jesti trahane…

After a long day I went to the wellness center resting and “meditating ” …After sitting in the sauna I started wonder…why do people in Germany have the need to stay naked in the sauna? When they are finished they go to the shower room and have separated dressing cabines?
So it turns out it is ok for women to look at mens hanging things but when they shower they should cover themselves and keep away from the other women?? or how am I supposed to get it?’

Good night and over!

Pozdrav!

Count down…3 days left

2

Today we are closing our chapter in Karlsruhe. It feels sad and in the same time exciting.
Our stuff in the apartment is all packed and we are sleeping in a hotel for the next few nights. The kids are overexcited and couldn’t sleep until 21.30h :/
Tomorrow comes the container and the things will then be shipped to US. It will take 5-6 weeks before we get our furniture and stuff meaning we will first live in a hotel for a couple of days.

During these days the team will get temporary living package in the house meaning a company brings all the things you need for living until your stuff arrives with the ship. Honestly, I didn’t even know companies like this exist…

It was hard to see how the kids reacted on leaving the apartment and going to the hotel. After a while they wanted to “go home”.
Me myself I am sad because it takes a looooot of energy to move and start a new existence even if it will be just for 2-3 years but I’m also exited. Somehow, I like moving around :/

A surprised girl asking where all the things are 🙂

Danas zatvaramo knjigu u Karlsruhe.
Sutra dolazi kontejner i sve stvari će prebaciti u Ameriku.

The hard thing by moving is that we have to sort a lot of things out. It is hard but also a relief to get rid of so many things.
One of the things I was missing was my golden bracelet that Ada had lost. I had been looking for it for ages and a guy from the packing company found it…in the place where we keep sweets… Who would come to the idea to check if the bracelet is there?

Another hard thing when moving like we are now is the economical aspect. It is expensive to move!
It is is hard to grasp how much money things loose in value. The kitchen and the car is an economical suicide. In the end I feel the best things to buy that keep value are jewels and branded expensive bags. My next bag will be a Hermes 😛

Maybe this one 😛 / Možda ovu? 😛

1.st of May

3

First of all happy 1.st of May. Wish you safe and well payed jobs 🙂 we were thinking of going to a demo bit decided that the kids are not in shape for that. Instead the kids wanted to barbecue. Ada is lately really fascinated by cake making so I agreed we’d make a cake together. So this morning she got up early to bake the cake. She had the honour to decorate the cake and she did:)

Next thing was going out for playing but after a while the kids where such a mess that we decided to go home for a rest.

In the mean time I continued my 100 days challenge of biking 30 min and until now I am keeping up the last two weeks. yes!!!

For the barbecue we had the perfect weather and the perfect barbecue master;)

After the barbecue we went again out to the playground. This time with happy kids….or not but at least the weather was perfect 😂

Spring festival Karlsruhe / Proljetni festival u Karlsruhe

4

Frühlingsfest or spring party is a nice happening in Karlsruhe when THE one and only ferris wheel comes in town and my kids pass it by every time we go to the kindergarten. I promised them we will go there…of course. At last we went three times and enjoyed the different carousels. I also noticed how different children’s perception is in comparison to grown ups. My daughter loved the duck fishing where you pick up ducks with a rod. Every duck symbolises some points and the more points the better “gift” you get. I found it complete waste of money and time…while she loved it.

Some of my impressions in US

5

A couple of weeks ago my husband and I went to US for a house hunting trip. I have some prejudices about US so it was quite interesting to go there with the goal to find a place for living.

One thing I got surprised about was that the standard of the houses is so bad. Ok, the houses are huge in comparison to the German and Swedish houses BUT the standard of the building and especially the bathrooms is much lower. For me it is difficult to understand the need of a palace with 10 rooms, 5 bathrooms and kitchens that are perfect for a Michelin chef (except that the fridge and freezer is worn out) instead of keeping it smaller but with higher quality.

The food in restaurants is excellent however every where we ate it costed around 100(!!) dollars for 2 people. This was some dynamite shrimp. It was deeeelicious.

Environment and Sustainibility

The use of plastic is everywhere, even in places one could avoid it. The mentality I feel is that “no matter what we do there is no environmental problem with our garbage.”

The car…
The use of car is essential. Without one car per person you are completely cut off from the society. The whole way of living is around the car. There are no or hardly any pavements for a walk. To take a bike would probably be considered suicidal:/

Bad drivers!

What I saw the Americans are really bad drivers (or I had bad luck). They were very aggressive and egoistic drivers introducing tons of dangerous situations.

The highways are really bad…at least where we were driving. I find the ways in Bosnia are better than the highways in NY and CT (except in US the ways are broader). There are literally huge holes in the highway that are life threatening when driving faster.
Then the absolute culture chock
At the high way they take over from both left and right side ending very often in very bad accidents. We were there 4 days and every day I saw one bad accident.

The flight

I was in US just for four days so the jet lag was an issue but I have to say that travelling business class made my days so much easier.

It was my first time flying business and it was an another dimension from my previous flights. All the space and the possibility to lay down and stretch out the legs…priceless (if you can afford the ticket) 🙂
The food was great in the business class, and one could watch movies and sleep. I am not a fan of flying so I took a beer to calm my nerves…

And the best thing is …we found a house 🙂
